What is Kalawalla?
The manufacturers of Kalawalla is a company dedicated to research in the bioactive organic and botanical extracts. Thirty years of research have given rise to 2 different products sold for over ten years in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Kalawalla is sold in those countries under different brand names such as Leucostat, Immunotrax, Bielavin and Difur. These natural extracts are a food supplement with a proven effect in alleviating many illnesses related to the immune system.
Polypodium leucotomos and Phlebodium decumanum are fern plants native to Honduras. They grow exclusively in Honduran jungles over the Palm trees in symbiosis. Through special techniques, Organic Hope has been able to grow and cultivate them under specially controlled conditions. The leaves in the wild can grow up to three feet long.
The ancient Mayans used Polypodium leucotomos (Kalawalla) as part of their daily diet in the form of tea as a blood purifier. They attributed healing properties to the drink and up until today the drink is still popular in Honduran tradition.
Psoriasis affects millions of people. Some of Psoriasis patients suffer all their lives never being able to overcome the disease. Psoriasis can be linked to an immune system imbalance. Kalawalla (Polypodium leucotomos 50:1 standardized extract) can help regulate the immune system bringing it to its healthiest, strongest levels. Kalawalla has been is used in Europe and Australia (under trade names Difur and Leucostat).
Polypodium leucotomos has many Clinical Studies that prove that it regulates the CD4/CD8 ratios to their normal values. Most researchers will agree that this regulation alone is key to offer protection against all types of psoriasis. Europeans have used Polypodium leucotomos extract for over 10 years with surprising results in Psoriasis. Polypodium is used in Australia and New Zealand as a novel way of fighting psoriasis.
Kalawalla is one of the few natural products considered as an approved medication in Europe because of its many published clinical trials.
Kalawalla is prescribed by MDs and NDs in many countries in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

So what is the real deal behind psoriasis? Why is it so hard to treat?
Unfortunately psoriasis origins are not in your skin. Almost all researchers will agree that psoriasis is caused by your immune system.
Here is how it goes:
Your immune system in your skin is designed to protect you from cuts and bruises. If a bacteria happens to enter your skin, your immune system (the T cells) will send a signal to other T cells to start a ferocious attack on the foreign invaders. If the bacteria happens to cause some damage to your skin, the T cells will also send a chemical signal (called Cytokines) to your skin cells letting them know that some damage has happened and they need to regenerate and heal.
How does psoriasis start?
In psoriatic patients, the immune system has become off balance. Something (a trigger) has caused the immune system of the patient to start sending false signals (Cytokines) to the skin. The skin then believes that it has been under attack and needs to rapidly regenerate in order to heal faster. A regular skin cycle, from the time that a new cell is born, grows, matures, reproduces and finally dies takes about 28 days. In psoriatic skin, the cells are reproducing in such a hurry, that their complete cycle takes merely 5 days rising up to the surface faster than the neighboring unaffected skin. So this is where the plaques come from! This is the real reason behind the swelling, the scaling and the plaques. One of the messengers often used by T cells is TNF (a kind of Cytokine). Excess TNF is well known to cause inflammation, swelling and redness in the skin. These are other common symptoms in psoriatic skin and is again caused by the off-balanced T Cells. Even more unfortunate is the fact that T Cells usually call more T Cells (to help them control the false attack), causing the snow ball effect, spreading the psoriasis to other parts of your skin in your body.
Where does the terrible itching comes from?
Its actually very simple. The itching comes from bacteria that lives in your skin. Everyone has a healthy amount of non pathogenic bacteria and microorganisms growing in their skin. But as with any other environment, once there is an overproduction of skin, there is more food for the bacteria that lives in your skin to thrive on. So you have an over-population of bacteria, which is the real reason behind the itching. Some unscrupulous or simply ignorant businesses will sell creams and ointments as psoriasis treatments, that do little more than clean your skin, sooth and eliminate the bacteria at the same time; such as anti fungal - antibacterial soothing creams, lotions and oils. This will temporarily sooth psoriatic skin by eliminating the excess bacteria, giving a false sense of "healing". Unfortunately this is only a temporary and most of the time the psoriasis will come back, sometimes even stronger because the real reason behind the psoriasis, the off balance T Cells, has not been treated.
How does Kalawalla help psoriatic patients ?
Its really very simple. Kalawalla will regulate your immune system. It will restore the T Cell balance, preventing them from sending all of the erroneous messages to your skin. Once this balance is restored, your skin will begin to grow normally again. This process takes an average of 2 - 4 months, but since you are treating the root of the problem, and not only the symptoms, you will obtain significant permanent results.
Once you immune system is balanced again, there is no reason for your skin to grow at a rapid pace, so the plaques will stop. Once the plaques stop appearing, there will be no more excess skin for the bacteria to thrive on and the itching will permanently go away. Your T Cells will not produce any excess TNF also, so the swelling, redness and inflammation will stop.
What about the triggers?
Triggers are the onset of situations that lead to the immune system imbalance. Most often the main trigger is stress or a stressful event. It is strongly suggested that to prevent another psoriasis onset, you should try to avoid any triggers (such as excesive stress) that may have caused your psoriasis in the first place. No one really knows the reason why the immune system goes off balance all of a sudden, but one thing is for sure, the only way to treat psoriasis is at its origin, by regulating the immune system back to its normal function again, and the only way to prevent any recurrence may be avoiding these triggers.
Does my diet have anything to do with it?
Not really. As we mentioned before, no one knows the real reason that lead to the immune system imbalance in the first place. No scientific correlation between specific diets and psoriasis has ever been found. So your diet may very well have little or nothing to do with your psoriasis itself. There are no "miracle diets" that can "heal your immune system". There is a catch though. We mentioned triggers before; and remember that most research will agree that triggers may be stress related. So anything that causes stress to your body may become a trigger. Sometimes people do not follow well balanced diets. Sometimes these diets lead to overweight and constipation. These two reasons alone may cause a lot of stress over your digestive system, and any stress on your digestive system may cause stress over your body as a whole. So we do recommend a very well balanced diet.
What is an Auto Immune Disorder?
Auto immune disorders are those diseases or ailments caused by your own immune system. Your immune system has subset of cells called T cells, that indicate the rest of your immune system, how foreign invaders should be dealt with.
In auto immune disorders, your immune system is out of order and is attacking your own tissues, creating a powerful disease or ailment that your body just can't seem to get rid of. By definition, your body is attacking itself, hence auto immune disorders are very hard to treat.
Many auto immune disorders are caused by an imbalance in the ratio and activity of T-helper lymphocytes (Th1 and Th2). These two subsets of cells are in a constant state of balance (like a see-saw): when one is increased, the other is decreased and vice versa. The more common manifestation is a Th2 excess, potentially resulting in an increased incidence of allergies, asthma and a susceptibility to infections (through the corresponding decreased Th1 activity and loss of protection).
The alternative, an excess of Th1 activity ("too much" immune protection), may result in tissue-specific inflammatory damage - such is the case of psoriasis, dermatitis, arthritis, lupus and vitiligo. Other diseases such as MS, although usually showing a Th1 prominence imbalance, may alternate from one imbalance to another.
The most common treatments for auto immune disorders are symptom specific treatments. For example, it is very common that your doctor prescribe pain relievers for arthritis pain, anti itching creams for psoriasis, make up for vitiligo, anti spasmodics for tremor control in MS, or anti inflammatory medications for lupus patients. Doctors can go on for as long as they can prescribing symptomatic drugs for auto immune disorders without treating the real problem.
A more direct approach to the problem, is using potent immune suppressive and anti inflammatory drugs for the more severe cases of auto immune disorders. For example, if you have severe psoriasis, you may be prescribed methotrexate, if you have lupus, you may be prescribed a steroidal product, or if you suffer from MS, you can be prescribed a potent immune suppressive drug such as interferons.
The problem is that while some of these medications can keep the immune system at bay, by suppressing its activity, the side effects that result from this can be as devastating as the disease itself. Very few patients can withstand more than three consecutive treatments with methotrexate due to the damage to the liver that this drug may cause. Lupus patients usually suffer from steroid induced cushing syndrome which disfigures the body, and MS patients can go on for life using immune suppressive drugs only to watch their symptoms reappear on the long run, while suffering from illnesses related to a diminished immune system.
A real solution to auto immune disorders is to modulate (not suppress) the activity of T cell ratios to normal balance without any side effects. Immune modulation has the advantage that, contrary to immune suppression, very few side effects can be observed from regulating the immune system back to normal. It also offers the advantage over symptomatic drugs in that the symptoms reverse themselves on their own after the immune system has reached proper balance, and this is done treating the root of the problem, and not only the symptoms.
Kalawalla has many Clinical Studies with MS, Lupus, Psoriasis, Vitiligo and other auto immune disorders, showing a high degree of success and very few side effects. It even has an OTC status in the European Union, which means that medical doctors actually prescribe Kalawalla for these disorders. We also know exactly how Kalawalla works due to Trials by the Harvard Medical School that details how Kalawalla modulates the T cells and its usefulness in auto aggressive / inflammatory conditions.
Other common auto immune disorders includeArthritis, Rheumathoid arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Grave´s disease Encephalomyelitis disseminatta, Chronic Fatigue syndrome, Crohn´s disease, Optic Neuritis, Hashimoto´s disease, Diabetes mellitus, ALS, Myastemia gravis, Addison´s, Osteoporosis, Parkinson´s, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Antiphospholipid syndrome, Barth syndrome, Hemolytic anemia, IgA Nephropathy, Microscopic Polyangiitis, Myositis, Pemphigus, Sarcoidosis, Scleroderma and Sjorgren´s syndrome. All of these can be treated to some extent with auto immune modulation.
In summary, if you have any type of auto immune disorder your body´s immune system is attacking your own tissues. You have one of the above mentioned choices as treatments. You can treat your symptoms with symptomatic drugs, you can suppress your immune system with immune suppressive drugs, steroids and/or anti inflammatory drugs, or you can use an alternative immune modulating option such as Kalawalla.
Truth being told, not all choices are right for everyone, but the choice should be yours based on fact and based on your own case. So make sure to choose well and always consult with your doctor before making a decision.
