Probiotics, Acidophilus, Bifido factor (The good Bacteria)
Good health begins in your gut! Flood your digestive system with healthy bacteria and everything just works better!
Probiotics: Also indexed as: Acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium longum, Intestinal Flora, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei, Saccharomyces boulardii
The relationship of Candida albicans to many common health disorders was first described by a Birmingham, Alabama, physician, C. Orian Truss, MD. Dr. Truss is the author of The Missing Diagnosis, which reveals how a yeast-free, low-sugar diet, along with antifungal medications, helped many of his chronically ill patients get well.
Probiotics have been used therapeutically to modulate immunity, improve digestive processes, lower cholesterol, treat rheumatoid arthritis, prevent cancer, improve lactose intolerance, and prevent or reduce the effects of atopic dermatitis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, IBS, diarrhea, constipation as well as candidiasis and urinary tract infections.
Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum are considered “good bacteria”. L. acidophilus and other Lactobacillus species, including L. bulgaricus, L. catnaforme, and L. fermentum normally inhabit vaginal and gastrointestinal tracts. These “Good Bacteria” help with the digestion, absorption, and production of certain nutrients.
There are over 400 species of bacteria and yeast which inhabit the intestinal tract. These “Good Bacteria” help keep potentially harmful bacteria and yeast in check. Probiotics should be used while taking antibiotics (don’t take at same time).
Most sicknesses start in our digestive system. Taking antibiotics kills the good bacteria which controls the yeast in our bodies and populates our digestive tracts. Without the good bacteria in our system, the yeast in our intestinal tract can grow to form the Candida fungus.
We have learned this can lead to leaky gut syndrome as well as a compromised immune system. The leaky gut often results in the passage of food particles and microbes into the blood, and the body's attempts to clear this 'foreign' matter out of the blood supply in turn often leads to an allergic response to those food items or microbes.
Candida has 140 different systems, and can manifest itself differently in each person. However the solution of the problem is essentially similar in each instance, and consists of the following 4 steps:
-
Candida lives on sugar and starch, so to stop further growth we have to cut out its food supply by eliminating sugar and starch from our diet. Sugar in 1 soda pop or 1 large candy bar/doughnut can compromise the immune system for up to 8 hours. With our defenses down, we become susceptible to whatever is going around. And some people who consume sugary items throughout the day end up wondering why it is that they catch whatever kind of bug or illness that's out there. The most effective way of avoiding the flu this winter is to cut out sugar (and cut it out now, because cutting it out after the winter has already set in, may not positively affect our immune system as fast as we would wish).
-
Rebuild the intestinal tract by replacing the intestinal flora
-
Repair and Boost the immune system
-
Kill the Candida and make it revert to the yeast state. This process takes about 90 days, after which you can slowly start taking sugar again. If you have yeast overgrowth you should stay on probiotics for at least three months. Some extremely resistant yeast infections may need continuous probiotic replacement therapy.
Supplementing with probiotics may benefit everyone. Friendly strains may aid in candida yeast overgrowth, and urogenital unrest in women, the elderly may also benefit from them as well, especially of they are prone to sickness and have taken antibiotics. Frequently, studies have demonstrated that probiotic supplementation may help those with diarrhea, and may provide enhancement of natural immunity. Thus, as a great deal of research suggests, friendly Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium are important to our health in all stages of life. Who can benefit from Probiotics?
-
Those with gastrointestinal disorders such as gluten sensitivity, IBS, gastritis, ulcers, diverticulitis, colitis, diarrhea or constipation
-
Those with chronic yeast infections
-
Those desiring daily intestinal support , or looking to enhance immunity
-
Anyone taking antibiotic
-
Someone who is under stress
-
Anyone can take probiotics simply to maintain a healthy balance of intestinal microflora
